Regular Program

Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 4

Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School is under Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS).  This is publicly funded Catholic Education.

At Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School, we offer a broad range of programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students, all within the context of a supportive Catholic community. Through innovative teaching practices and progressive initiatives, we engage and inspire each student to reach their fullest potential, fostering both academic and personal growth.

The Regular Program at Our Lady of the Angels embraces an inquiry-based learning philosophy that encourages curiosity and hands-on discovery. Students are immersed in collaborative learning environments where they engage in meaningful, real-world activities designed to spark their curiosity and deepen their understanding. Teachers facilitate this process by encouraging critical thinking, posing higher-level questions, and providing opportunities for students to explore and construct their own learning.

Central to the Regular Program are key learner attributes that we nurture in all students: respect, responsibility, risk-taking, diligence, cooperation, and inquiry. These qualities help guide students through their academic journey, promoting the development of well-rounded, confident learners. The common language of these attributes is reinforced across all grade levels, creating a consistent and supportive learning environment.

Regular Program Highlights:

  • Faith integrated through core subjects
  • Collaborative learning structures that promote teamwork and peer interaction
  • Hands-on learning opportunities that engage students in meaningful experiences
  • Focus on early literacy and numeracy through targeted teacher instruction and learning centers
  • French as a Second Language introduced in Grade 4
  • Daily Physical Education and Wellness (PEW) classes to support physical and mental well-being
  • Cross-age activities that foster mentorship and collaboration among students of different grades

Aligned with Alberta’s new K-4 curriculum, our program emphasizes on key learning outcomes. These outcomes are integrated across all subject areas and grade levels, ensuring that every classroom at OLA is a center of learning excellence. This approach prepares students not only for academic success but also for their roles as responsible and engaged citizens in the world.

Where do I get information about Transportation and to arrange busing?

Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Catholic Schools are expanding their cooperative student transportation agreement. This will help reduce the impact of higher insurance and fuel costs, increase direct busing for students where feasible, reduce carbon footprint and address capacity issues for both divisions. The expanded partnership is good news for both EIPS and EICS, as student transportation represents a significant expense for Alberta Education and school divisions.

All busing to schools in Fort Saskatchewan is provided by EIPS.
